• Roman Aqueduct
In Novalja is worth to be visited the antic underground aqueduct,
built at the beginning of the first century A.D. during the Roman period. This is the reason why the aqueduct has received the nickname of "Italian hole". The aqueduct is provided with 9 draught holes ( odihe ), the highest of which is situated at 44 m. It served for supplying with drinkable water the former towns and workshops, the ships sailing along the routes of the ancient world. With the end of the antic world the aqueduct lost its function and remained unknown till XIX century, when it was discovered. At the beginning of XX century, for three short periods, the aqueduct was in function again.
Today it is a tourist attraction and can be visited in 150 m length; nevertheless, the town authority works on its revitalization
for being accessible in a greater length. The entrance is at Zvonimirova Street in front of the Town Hall, where the Ethnographic Museum is been building.
